Nelson - Oversong

Oversong by Nelson

TRACKLISTING: (A1) The Over Song (Chicken Lips Malfunction mix) (A2) The Over Song (Album Version) (B1) The Over Song (Midfield General Dub) (B2) The Over Song (The Shoes Remix)

Nelson’s 2nd UK release, The (Over) Song, is powerful, melodious and foreboding, only enhanced by the storming riffs present. It has a military-esque feel and with the repetition of “This is not over”, you can feel the impending battle looming ahead. Yet Nelson manage to incorporate tight guitars with delicate synths creating a sinister and vulnerable environment for the listener
In 2004, Nelson started a club night in Paris at Bar 3, to provide a platform to all the rock n roll bands on the Paris scene that had nowhere to showcase their bands before, and it was a massive success in its short lifespan. “Every Parisian band that is hyped now can tell you a story about Bar 3” remarks Devay and indeed it gave Nelson, a much earned ticket to the UK scene.
Nelson are met with many comparisons, Interpol crossed with The Rapture or Joy Division meets Animal Collective, but what defines this band from other Libertine inspired bands, is that they don’t sound like a bad version of the originals. In fact, Nelson sounds far more dark and gloomy than Doherty et al ever could. Perhaps it’s because their new wave and punk influences run deeper than most. Their album Revolving Doors is out on September 29th 2008.

12” features Remixes by Steve Kotey from Chicken Lips, Skint head honcho Midfield General and The Shoes taking the track to the dancefloors
