How to go from that to the new Oasis single 'The Shock of the Lightning' is quite a culture shock. Suddenly I'm transported into the realm of the hard faced parka wearing terrace mod and I feel like my ears are being buggered by several large greasy poles of empty sonic bluster, hopelessly monotone drums and faux psychedelic rifferama. Brett thinks the huge wafting organ adds a certain Je ne sais quoi. I think it's 100 times better than 'The Hindu Times', the last "new" thing I recall hearing by them. But that's a 100 times better than a smear of dog chod inside your flip flops on a beach cos you didn't watch where you were going cos you had big fuck off Paul Weller mirrored shades on & were busy wiping a huge dribble of excess cocaine off yr Union Jack swimming trunks. Whilst walking around Salford. The boys reckon they've stuck to their guns and give it their all here. So trust those pups, they've got the groove on and are "down with the kids". The Chemical Brothers remix 'Falling Down' as an extra track which brings them bang up to date, hey-hey it's Nineteen Ninety Eight OK?The Shock Of The Lightning (Album Version)
Falling Down (The Chemical Brothers Remix)
‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ is regarded by principal songwriter Noel Gallagher as one of the band’s most instant songs “because it was written dead fast. And recorded dead fast. ‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ basically is the demo. And it has retained its energy. And there’s a lot to be said for that, I think. The first time you record something is always the best.”
The B side to the single is the sought after Chemical Brothers remix of ‘Falling Down’, another song from the forthcoming ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ album. The Chemical Brothers’ remix is a psychedelic, acid-tinged take of the track which has been climbing club and radio charts after Big Brother sent it to a handful of DJs around the world.
