Machinefabriek has a new CD out on Sentient Recognition Archive called 'Vloed', possibly an anagram of loved. I'm rather liking his waves of static & dissonance, with hazy sustained notes wavering up & down like a sonic tide gently lapping at your ears. Ten mins plus in and the aura gets angrier, the fog of noise building around your head like a swarm of disaffected drone filling your conscience. It's comforting & unnerving at the same time, warm but slightly imposing, powerful stuff. After a while more concrete sounds filter in and out, like digital rubble being sprinkled over the future ambient fog. It's great! Track 2 is minimalism in effect, more sustained notes hovering in an echo chamber or a huge damp warehouse playing host to some sentient beings whilst a disembodied piano is plinked at. Very atmospheric. Closer track 3 is a drifting, graceful piece, a little desolate and wistful, like a hot day under a canopy overlooking desert plains, having time to ponder, pre-apocolypse style. This is really headphones music, A lot of minutae is probably lost in the translation, fragments of sound dropping out into the ether but it nevertheless sounds pretty rich in texture, layered beautifully. As good as anything I've heard the man do before!
