Oxbow - Lover Ungrateful

Lover Ungrateful by Oxbow

4...according to our on Thu 02 Oct, 2008.

Everyone loves a bit of Oxbow don't they? Getting your head rammed into a crotch and a mic stand in your stomach? Good times, good times. Recently they've been doing some acoustic shows as the Oxbow Duo and although this Lover Ungrateful 7" is billed as a full Oxbow release it's more in that sort of vein. The lack of crushing riffs doesn't lower the intensity one bit and Eugene Robinson can go on proving that he should really have lived in the 1920s and been the most mental bluesman of all time.. The talk in the office is that it sounds a bit like Mule unplugged or something, not that surprising since they come from a similar sort of lineage. 'Frankly Frank' is a reinterpritaion of a track from their last super excellent LP The Narcotic Story and 'Stallkicker', the lead track, is from the even bettererer An Evil Heat. Righteous kill!

Designed to be the last will and testament of failed humanity, ladies and gentleman, I give you Oxbow. Quite possibly the most important band in the world right now, something that Eugene Robinson, Dan Adams, Greg Davis and Niko Wenner have been Fighting for some 20 years. Veterans of the world they have played all over; Oxbow now bring you 'Lover Ungrateful', a 7" record containing two of the best songs from the great history of this influential band. From 2002's An Evil Heat (Neurot) is 'Stallkicker' and from 2007's The Narcotic Story (Hydrahead) is 'Frankly Frank', both new recordings, using acoustic instruments only, these are harrowing versions of two classics, that make you feel right next to the band, a place for the brave, but one of the most rewarding on this planet.
