What we say
This record left our Clint feeling unmoved.
Phil has just told me that when Walkers did a competition where people were asked to send in new flavours of crisps he suggested hawk flavour crisps. Unfortnuately it doesn't look like they will catch on. The first track on this new Gregory and the Hawk album called 'Moenie and Kitchi' promises much. A lovely acoustic guitar intro, lady vocals and crazy drums courtesy of producer Adam Pierce (aka Mice Parade) the overall effect being somewhat like that lovely Club 8 album from a few years ago that made me swoon and sway. Unfortunately what comes after is just people playing instruments and singing. Theres nothing bad about it particularly its just not memorable. It sounds like your average singer songwriter (someone said Lisa Loeb - a kinder comparison would be Sarah Cracknell) i.e she can sing - its all in tune. The producer tries to put some life into it with some amazing drumming (when is Pierces drumming anything else but splendid) but not quite enough to lift this beyond average. More oomph needed I think. On Fat Cat.
