I'm liking the sleeve for Hot Panda's Cold Hands/Chapped Lips 7" quite a bit, it features two kids fighting in a ring in front of a crowd of delighted 1890s gentlemen with knives and teddy bears while wearing beaks on their mouths, like The Knife have had kids and made them go out on the street to earn their own living in death sports. The music is incredibly chirpy, indie that chimes away dead twee like for the most part then goes all loud discordant every now and again. It's got a bit of a Britpop feel to it we think.. To be honest it's left us all a little bit in shock at this unholy time in the morning but I'm sure you know if you like this sort of thing! Out on Canada's Mint Records.Limited 7" of 500 copies only from Canada's Hot Panda. When you get compared, in the same breath, to everything from Daniel Johnson to the
Talking Heads, you know you have a sound that's hard to pin down. Hot Panda is a swath of tunes that sound like anything and everything: Brit pop,
gypsy swing, opera solos, Robert Pollard style lo-fi jangles, glammy Roxy Music keyboards, and "melodies that will be impossible to dislodge from
your temporal cortex" (ChartAttack), all find their home in the music of Hot Panda... sometimes all in the same song!
