Another sub-genre pops up in electronic music. I'd never heard of the Scandinavian "Skwee" scene until I read the press release for Eero Johanes self-titled debut on Planet Mu."Originally from Scandinavia, Skweee combines very simple synth leads and basslines with the rhythms of funk, RnB and soul", a formula that sits comfortably on the label with the occasional moment reminding me of Jake Slazenger. It's quite happy and playful sounding, extremely melodic and quirky. It's kinda bleepy at times and has some funky grooves. Not bad at all but not really blowing my mind. CD and 2LP on Planet Mu. After compilation tracks on Harmonia and Flogsta Dancehall, multitalented Finnish graphic designer and electronic musician Eero Johannes Pitkänen comes correct with his debut release, an album on Planet Mu. Part of the nternationally famous Scandinavian ’Skweee’ scene, his music stretches from Italo to Electro-Funk, Miami bass to R’n’B and beyond.
About Skwee: Originally from Scandinavia, Skweee combines very simple synth leads and basslines with the rhythms of funk, RnB and soul. It is a flourishing community based around online networks that are moving beyond those frontiers thanks to their personal overhaul of dance music.
