Crikey guv, this Gown CD comes with a sexual object of an artwork and no mistake. It's a silk screened poster that folds out all big, looks super quality and licks your face like the ghost of your childhood pet friend come back to comfort you in your hour of need. I'm bunged up beyond belief so I can't give you the most important detail about this release but Phil tells me it smells like the drawers of a Russian billionaire's missus. As for the music, the first track reminds me of a kind of cosmic Will Oldham, his voice is quite similar and it's a nice contrast to hear that kind of earthiness combined with some far-out space rock sounds. The second one's an instrumental that takes things that little bit further, with layered guitars whipping up a long, noisy squall.. I reckon this shit would be totally transcendent with the volume cranked right the way up. There's only 130 copies of On the River and with the poster it's a bargain!Gown is Gown is Gown. We love it. 3 tracks of earthquake balladeering. Packaged in a double sided 11x17 3-color poster folded to hold the Gown sounds in mothering fashion. Darryl Norsen has created something both lush and arresting in his art for this release, ideal and deserving housing for this magisterial music. The guitar doesn't weep, it sobs.
