Invisible Bees (Damian Burgess and Elin Eriksen) have really outdone themselves with the handmade packaging on album '1st' this edition of 50, hand-made gatefold painted covers with vintage cloth seams looks stunning and the artwork gives us a clue as to the audio on the disc inside. Using a kit list that includes accordian, guitars, voice, saz, benjo, gongs, singing bowl, violin, zither, harmonica, drums, bamboo flute, flower pots, metal bucket, jews harp, springs, baking tray etc. Now if this sounds to you like a bunch of lunatics clattering about on pots and pans then you're much mistaken. 'First' is a highly considered and restrained record of immense beauty. Simultaneously melodic and experimental with both psych and folk elements, dark and light layers of drone and exotic sounds. Remarkable stuff that really lets the imagination run wild.A chance meeting in a haunted fruit cellar. Instruments were gathered and tuned to the november wind, recording continued until the snow melted and the infant sun exploded into a million burning eyes. invisible bees are a primitive-psych-folk-duo united in their aim to send time out of joint. The insect ritual is darkly hypnotic-droney-buzzy-with primitive saz-warm accordion swells -minimal guitar repeats-strummed violin-tolling bells- bowed metal and devotional vocals. This could be the soundtrack to Joseph Conrad's 'Heart Of Darkness'- "Do you see him? Do you see the story? Do you see anything? It seems I am trying to tell you a dream"- invisible bees.
