Enter Pacheko, of Caracas, Venezuela. A long time producer and supporter of the Breakcore sound in his homeland, he was instrumental in the founding of the premier open genre event in Caracas, known as Wobbler Soundclash. Although a world away from Bristol, Dresden, or any of the other places which have seen and heard the characteristics of Breakcore become adapted to Dubstep with exciting effects, nevertheless his early productions gradually drifted from one genre to the other, until what was put down on hard disc was something all it's own, while still touching on the keystones of Dubstep. Musically, ‘Tryouts’ and ‘Bi-Polar Bear’ are similarly structured to the golden era Moving Shadow (Think Hyper-On Experience’s ‘Disturbance’ applied to Dubstep), with each track revealing a series of distinct movements. ‘Tryouts’, for instance, starts out quite aggressive, yet ends dubby. As a way to add to the material's versitility, the two tracks’ main mixes on side one are mastered with no dead space between them, so one can in effect mix in from any movement on the record or just listen straight through. Pacheko shares an office in a design firm in Caracas with Cardopusher, and once he heard what was being plotted up with Lo Dubs, he threw his hat in the ring and rapidly presented a positively scorching remix of ‘Tryouts’ for the flipside. About the same time, Philly ruler Starkey was working on a remix for Cardopusher on Terminal Dusk, and when his Dubstep-to-four-beat-bassline-eight-minute-and-change epic remix of ‘Bi-Polar Bear’ was added to the pyre, the circle was complete. In another bit of lucky timing, this track, which both Lo Dubs and Starkey are incredibly proud to be releasing, will be the first release on the streets just as Starkey completes his appearance on Mary Anne Hobbs’ Generation Bass session on August 19th, billed as a sequel of sorts to her seminal Dubstep Warz show of January 2006. Starkey will be off and running at that point with full lengths in the autumn from both Lo Dubs and Planet Mu. Word is bond.
