Zaimph - Bird of Prey/ Inclination

Bird of Prey/ Inclination by Zaimph

I always get excited whenever anything Marcia Bassett (GHQ, Double Leopards, Hototogisu, UN) drops so its pretty damn sweet to have a Zaimph 7" 'Bird Of Prey/ Inclination' on Arbor. This is totally different to the ferocious album on Prurient's Hospital productions label and more along the lines of the GHQ LP on Time-Lag. Gorgeous acoustic guitar and piano hypnotize me and the vocal mantras just lift the thing up to the heavens. A bewitching and spellbinding listen and I'm almost reminded of a more far out Alexander Tucker. It's quite a long tune that they've managed to squeeze on this side. A magical journey.'Inclination' on the other side is not quite as laid back, the mood is similar but more intense with layers of sound and distant melodies washing over the ears. It sounds like it's from another space in time, possibly even another dimension. Quality gear.

In the past Marcia Bassett(of Double Leopards, GHQ) has proved her versaitility under the Zaimph name; from the depraved feedback and tone fury of her “Sexual Infinity” CD on Hospital Productions to her delicate electric guitar and vocals waves on the “Mirage of The Other” LP on Gypsy Sphinx. This untitled 7” release further proves this fact by recalling her earliest roots in the Siltbreeze band UN: vocal mantras and delicate strumming are placed over a hypnotically evolving base of looped piano, feedback, and strings. The end result is something beautiful that twists the lines of classification, picking up little points of reference from her past bands and laying out a path towards the future. In an edition of 500 7”s in proprinted full color foldover sleeves with art by Marcia. Mastered by Josh Stevenson.
