Function - Anticipation

Anticipation by Function

4...according to our on Wed 06 Aug, 2008.

Ant reliably informs me that Function is a fellow called David Sumner from New York and his stuff is 'a distillation of early Sahko and Sleep Archive'. I'm just nodding my head and pretending to know what he's on about, I mean I've never even heard of New York. Sooo, trying to judge this 'Anticipation' 12" on its own merits I'll say that it's a pretty bleepy blooping good technoid slab full of spacey echoes, there's a slight dubbiness to the sounds that I always welcome. It's like that Basic Channel sound, it's a million miles from actually being dub but it appropriates some of its less obvious elements in quite an interesting way. Both tracks here are pretty mid-paced, you'd have a hard time calling them party bangers unless your parties go on inside your head while you're wearing headphones which would make you a mega weird loner who'll never have kids. In an ideal world parties would physically happen inside skulls but we're not at that stage yet so don't try to preempt things by doing it all mentally, you'll just get yourself locked up when you try to invite actual people.
