What we say about Sing Me A Song EP, by Taro Kawasaki
This record left our Ant feeling happy.
Before I take another shower I'll tell you about a CD that is equally as sweet... A lovely 3 inch disc on Drifting Falling from Taro Kawasaki.'Sing Me A song EP' is a playfully curious 4 tracker of sparkling bell tinkles, gently plucked acoustic guitar melodies and sparse beats. There are hints of abstraction, but the melodies win the tussle in the battle to warm your heart. A proper summer smiler that'll have you gagging for a sun lolly. The production is ever so clean sounding it makes me feel like a proper grubby tramp. Ltd numbered edition of 200.
What the label says about Sing Me A Song EP, by Taro Kawasaki:
Taro Kawasaki is a 22 year old laptop wizard from Kawagoe City, Japan. He began playing
the piano when he was in primary school and added guitar to his repetoire by the time he
was in high school, playing in several bands along the way. When he was 18 he started
making music on his computer. His initial experiments resulted in some sample based
hip hop, dodgey lounge music, and cheap techno. Blessing or curse, in 2006 his computer’s
hard drive crashed and after an appropriate period of mourning, he decided to shift away
from electronic music altogether. He reacquainted himselft with his guitar. Setting aside
his resentment, he moved to Tokyo and rediscovered his love for electronic production
and blended it with acoustic instruments. Lucky for us, because the result is something
amazingly beautiful and fresh.
"Sing Me a Song" is the debut release from Taro Kawasaki. Recorded during three weeks in
May of 2007, it possesses an innocence and beauty that will bring to mind the charm of
Lullatone and the most playful moments of Múm’s “Finally We Are No One”. It reads like
chapters of a book or movements of a symphony with recurring themes cropping up
throughout. It will be released as a limited 3” cdr
