What we say

Rating: unmoved This record left our Ant feeling unmoved.

If Clint were here he'd no doubt give the new Cure single a good kicking.. The poor chap almost got lynched after his last review, he received death threats and is now under 24 police protection. He has to check under his car for explosives every morning he drives to work. It's no life that, I tell thee. Poor chap's life destroyed, he's constantly looking over his shoulder and gets "the fear" about 7 times a day. The last time I saw him he was constantly looking out of the window and sweating "There're coming" he'd say. To ensure the personal safety of my colleagues I've stepped up and I'm gonna spout off about 'The Perfect Boy'. They're still as popular as ever and their influence is there for all to see but you're just left wanting the older sound. I dunno what to make of it really. Phil says its awful though so go and get him.

The Cure have announced the title of the third single from their thirteenth studio album (Suretone/Geffen) as “The Perfect Boy (Mix 13)” (out 13th August). Like its predecessors “The Only One (Mix 13)”, "Freakshow (Mix 13)” and "Sleep When I'm Dead (Mix 13)", the single will be released digitally and on CD and 7” and will be backed with an exclusive b-side “Without You”. None of the b-sides will appear on the album. The singles were produced by Robert Smith and Keith Uddin.

Led as always by lead singer/guitarist Robert Smith, the Cure line-up comprises long-time members bass player Simon Gallup, drummer Jason Cooper and, back in the band for a third time, guitarist Porl Thompson.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.

'I swear there should have more change from a fiver than what I got.'
