Terry Edwards & The Scapegoats have a 7" out called 'Three Blind Mice'. It's a weird old thang with a hoofing bass pummel, heavy disco drums & a shit-kicking desolate guitar squall/skrong/growl. Then halfway in arrives the jazz trumpet kicking you in the ears like some pissed up wino star-jumping out the boozer. The vocals only hit during the chorus, like a darkly intoned chant, or a snatch of foreboding poetry. Ltd 7" on Orchestra Pit.'Three Blind Mice' b/w 'Hark! Hark! The Dogs Do Bark' This year alone has seen Mr Edwards tour Europe with Gallon Drunk and Tindersticks, perform with Jerry Dammers’ Spatial AKA at the Banlieues Blues Festival, establish himself as Robyn Hitchcock's current main musical foil, guest with The Duke Spirit, Dirty Pretty Things and Elbow (the latter at Massive Attack's Meltdown) and even share stage time alongside REM at The Royal Albert Hall; whilst Jools Holland was moved to introduce him on 'Later' as "The Sensational Terry Edwards"! but for this single it's back to business with The Scapegoats, currently comprised of longtime associate Jem Moore on bass, and drummer Simon Pearson, with a guest appearance from trombonist Mike Kearsey. each side features a track from the work in progress that is the 'Nursery Rhymes' project, delivering a chilling playground collission between Discharge and Glam Rock in the shape of 'Hark! Hark! The Dogs Do Bark', and on the lead track finding those 'Three Blind Mice' are actually sporting shades purchased from Walt Jabsco. whether it's a carnival you're after or a freak show, take your pick with either tune, or just enjoy a little bit of light and shadow as the silver glints in the dark dark night.
