Romakid

This record left our Brett feeling happy.
Romakid by Romakid by Romakid by Romakid on Distant Noise. This lot do a kind of fractured beat-y thing that often reminds me of a non-hip-hop Dalek, no bad thing at all. I saw Dalek a few months ago and they had this guy playing guitar who was proper going for it the whole way through the set and seemed to be making no sound whatsoever, I think they were doing a Richey Edwards on him and had his guitar lead plugged into a potato or something. Some of it makes me think of 65daysofstatic too. Expect plenty of trip-hop beats accompanied by melancholic synths and occasional field recordings of people jabbering on about atmospheric stuff.. It keeps things varied with various guesting vocalists, giving it a bit of a compilation feel. Some of it sounds a wee bit dated but it's not bad at all. Limited to 100 hand-numbered copies so be swift like the wind!

What their label says...
Romakid take crunchy, scratched up programmed beats, chipped and looped guitars and layer it with soft, ambient drones and crafted vocals.
Their self entitled debut album follows their debut ep 'Centre and Periphery', released on Isolation Recordings in 2004.
Romakid try to maintain a loose and textured feel to their sound, avoiding pristine production to articulate their hopes and experiences.
The album features collaborations with different artists to add a collective edge.
Romakid hope you enjoy.
