A bouncy little indie tune to kick things off this week from Kid Canaveral called 'Couldn't Dance' and they sound well white so they probably can't. The guy singing couldn't sound much more Scotch if he tried, it's quite remarkable. It's a pleasant little 3-minute lo-fi pop song really, the B-side's called 'Teenage Fanclub Song' which gives you a better idea of where they're coming from than I probably can using my rubbish powers of information processing and description. It comes with a free CD which is always nice for the old em pee three player or whatever! On Straight To Video, like that experimental film I made starring Rip Torn and some stop-motion meatballs from Ikea.Couldn’t Dance, the band’s latest 3 minute gem, is to be released on 7” vinyl via their own label, Straight To Video. Rolling bass and drums open the song, with a chiming guitar telling the story of a drunken night-out gone wrong. Ripped shirts, nicked keys, broken backs and sore heads tumble into a stomping anthemic roar ...
The single’s flipside hosts live favourite, Teenage Fanclub Song - featuring the girls swooning “aaahhh”’s over the refrain, and David’s sun-drenched falsetto. It showcases a more delicate side to the band - without ever being precious or coy. Just a perfect summer song, that the Fannies would be proud of.
Both songs were recorded and mixed at Chem19 in Glasgow by Andy Miller (The Fratellis, Sons & Daughters, De Rosa, Mogwai), and mastered by Reuben Taylor (James Yorkston & The Athletes) in Edinburgh.
"Bouncing in on as much adequately turbulent lo-fi charm as ever, KidCanaveral’s latest single sees the Edinburgh foursome doing what theydo best; wrapping their tales of social strife in more hooks than JohnPrescott at an egg farm." **** Is This Music?
