What we say
This record left our Phil feeling unmoved.
Late of The Pier coming up near the rear then. Their brand new single called Heartbeat is a huge slab of cheeky 80's pop in disguise as the new wave of indie dance music. Though it does rock at times and towards the end there's a terrifying guitar solo which I think Stephen King should write a book about (if he hasn't already). In fact its a weird mix of prog and indie dance. It doesn't really sound like Gary Numan which the other tracks by 'em I've heard manage to sound like. Loads of synths everywhere and of course it wouldn't be a record released in this decade without their being a Hot Chip mix on there.

“Late Of The Pier are rapidly making most other British bands seem like primitive, drooling luddites by comparison” – NME “They combine the best bits of all genres to forge the way in pop, and set a challenge for everyone else to come up with something to match it” – Artrocker “Preternaturally brilliant” – The Guardian “Mind blowing brilliance” – The Fly
As we approach the released of their remarkable debut album ‘Fantasy Black Channel’ (out 11th August), Late Of The Pier will release an equally remarkable new single ‘Heartbeat’ on 4th August 2008. Perfecting the blueprint Late Of The Pier have laid down so far – a willingness to take risks, push boundaries, ignore convention and develop an unique sound all of their own – Heartbeat is set to build on the success of previous singles ‘Bathroom Gurgle’, ‘The Bears Are Coming’, ‘Space And The Woods’ and ‘Focker’. Like their forthcoming debut album, ‘Heartbeat’ sees Erol Alkan on production duties. It will be available on CD, 7”, 12” and download and will feature remixes from Hot Chip, Zongamin and La La Lepus. Meanwhile, Late Of The Pier are set to perform at UK festivals throughout the summer. The band will appear at The Serpentine Festival, Wild In The Country, The Eden Sessions (with the Kaiser Chiefs), Secret Garden Festival, the Reading, Leeds festivals, Creamfields and Bestival. They’ve also been confirmed to appear at Japan’s Summer Sonic in August. Late Of The Pier are: Samuel Dust (vocals, guitar), Rouge Dog Consuela (drums, percussion, believer), Francis Dudley Dance (bass) and Jack Paradise
