Various - Half Dreaming

Half Dreaming by Various

4...according to our on Thu 17 Jul, 2008.

Also on the Quince label is another decent CD of shoegaze inspired indie ala Creation 1989. This one is called Half Dreaming and it's a comp of loads of shoegaze bands from the far East. I'm not talking about Hull here either, I mean Malaysia, Korea, Indonesia, Japan, China, Hong Kong and The Philippines. That's well east. Weast... The first time I heard this it sounded like loads of different bands... the opener sounds like The Boo Radleys, the 2 track sounds like Lush... other tracks sound like Ride, My Bloody Valentine, Teenage Filmstars, Kitchens of Distinction, Moose, MBV (of course) and probably lots more bands I've forgotten about. It works surprisingly well and if you shut your eyes and forget what you're listening to it will take you back in time to when the NME was good and things didn't seem to be quite as shit as they are now. It's very well done and authentically played/ put together. I'm particularly fond of the Perfect Angel track called Cataclysmic which is Phil Leigh's hottest record in the world in the today. Isn't Zane Lowe a tosser.

Album Description:
The shoegaze movement that built short
prosperity by bands such as My Bloody
Valentine, Slowdive and Cocteau Twins in 90's
returns as nu-gaze and it's a pleasure to release
this record titled Half Dreaming - an Asian
shoegaze compilation album brought to people
all over the world by Quince Records. A lot of
people seem to have much interest on how
shoegaze/dreampop scene in Japan and Asia is
now in progress or how much retro-futurist
artist from the viewpoint of electronica such as
Ulrich Schnauss and Manual exists. Actually, it
is never an easy labor to find many new
Asian talents in this kind of genre. Though,
they will be compared with the US & European
shoegaze-influenced bands soon, and it should
be recognized through Half Dreaming first. It
features together sixteen bands with a strong
passion for the shoegazing style, some artists
are well known already in an Asian indie music
scene, others have a debut record in near
future. The compilation is including only for
the new song, unreleased version and
re-recorded tracks.
