Just got my edition direct from Misplaced (ta for the link chaps at Norman). Excellent job all around, it has to be good if my 14 year old decided he liked it within minutes of the first track of 'The Gallows'
drifting upstairs.  I've now ordered up as much of the misplaced back catalogue as i can :-) Great stuff....buy it quick or miss out.

Going to see Gareth S. Brown "in concert" these days is like falling into the realms of a secret Alice in Wonderland treasure chest of swooping emotive joy or something. He never fails to put on a stunning performance of spellbinding proportions lulling you into a clockwork land of hypnosis, dazzling repetition & childlike wonderment. Recently, every time I've watched him I've wondered "I wonder how his new album's coming on?" and now I need not stress (for a few months) as he's only bloody gone & proffered a two in one mighty fanfare of godlike impressiveness! If my words sound a bit on the over flattering side you probably ain't heard this double header of modern classical beauty, a leap of oceans on from his charming & delightful debut 'Iron Henry'. The sweet, playful music box wonk of that set still remains in the shadows, occasionally used to sprinkle his finely honed Philip Glass-isms, his bittersweet symphonies from a magic dreamland, but this sound is bigger, more epic in scale & he's sounding as if he really shares the same plateau with his mentors. I can guarantee that if you listen to this album on the headphones, your nerves will tingle, your brain will dance & your heartstrings will be plucked to ecstasy as this music is all enveloping, consuming, alive & delicious like some kind of dawnkissed aural woodland at 6am (but there's a bad squirrel over yonder, in that tree - look and see!) I'm never one to intellectualise music, it's either good or bad, but Gareth is a real maestro in my heart who pours his love of dizzying minimalism & cyclic repetition into (mostly!) soothing journeys for the soul. Essential for fans of Glass, Aphex, Tezzer Riley, Stevie Reich and Yann Tiersen, 'The Gallows'/'Royal College O' Surgeons' is in a recycled card handmade package from the nice folks at Misplaced Music.... exactly what this is actually, make sure it gets "placed" in your cart hahaha! x Brian

What the label says:

Limited to 300 & handmade.  We have 30 strictly limited edition copies with bonus CD 'Early Mammals'  - a 45 minute Gareth S Brown song suite - plus Misplaced Music and Gareth S Brown badges.

For fans of:  Moondog, Phillip Glass, Michael Gordon, Terry Riley, Michael Nyman, Max Richter, Tom Waits, Brian Eno, Penguin Café Orchestra, Yann Tiersen, µ-Ziq, Aphex Twin and Colleen. The Gallows is the long awaited second album from Leeds-based musician Gareth S. Brown and the follow up to his 2007 opus Iron Henry. The Gallows is a song cycle of extraordinary emotion, power and precision from the metallic clank of the opening 'An Attack of the Good Grace' the influences of Michael Nyman and Phillip Glass are immediately obvious; yet Brown has such a distinctive way with a melody that every composition is fully his own – haunting string and oboe lines glide effortlessly over repetitive percussive xylophone and vibraphone. The title track is reminiscent of Ryuichi Sakamoto’s 'Rain (I want a divorce)’, The Blue Nile's 'Walk Across the Rooftops' and Burial's 'Archangel' in its rain-drenched beauty whilst 'First Re-appearance' takes the minimalist approach to its ultimate conclusion only revealing its warped melody after several minutes of churning loops reminiscent of a neo-classical take on Third Eye Foundations off-kilter discordance.
The Gallows will be released as part of a limited edition two CD set along with Royal College O' Surgeons, a full length album comprised of tracks recorded during the making of both The Gallows and Iron Henry that didn't make it onto either final cut. Don't let this fool you into thinking these are out-takes. This is a fully realised album of amazing scope and breadth. 'Earlier, I thought I saw John Dee' is the best song Rachel's never recorded whilst 'You mustn't stop clapping your hands (or you will die, you will die)' is Browns most strung out textured work to date recalling Seefeel's fractured ambience. Praise for Gareth S Brown - “The mood is euphoric melancholy. Untouchable neo-classical beauty.” – Norman Records / “Very beautiful, very epic” – Sandman / “A master class in modern minimalism” – Boomkat / “Tom Waits grotesque carnival but made in a primary school’s music cupboard.” – Vanity Project. Tracks : An Attack of the good grace, listing vampyre, sprung, serpent, gallows, two herons & critical goose, tyburn, first re-appearance, Vaults, Jars, great argonaut, son house, madrigal, earlier, i thought i saw john  dee, missing unit, specimen, sandpiper, you mustn't stop clapping (or you will die, you will die)
