"The perfect cross between Dylan’s surrealist delivery and the sighing comedown of David Crosby’s "If Only I Could Remember My Name" (Uncut).
The Skygreen Leopards started in 2001 as a duo, just Glenn Donaldson and Donovan Quinn. Working out of the Hobo Victoria district of San Francisco, they’ve since recorded five full-length albums and one EP in their five year history.
Disciples of California mixes pop melodies, minimal country-isms, jingle-jangling Californianism and angular folk.
Lyrically and conceptually, Glenn and Donovan continue down their twisted path. The ghosts of girl-beauties, whispering trees, swimming-hole cousins, crippled horses and human-faced animal-saints all join the dizzying parade.
PRESS:
- "Disciples of California’s sepia-tinted Country Rock is a tune-heavy treat. Remind yourself what summer felt like." (NME 8/10)
- "Enchanting! Like memories of summer, these Americana pop-gems are musical daydreams that sound like The Shins or a less experimental, more radio- friendly Beachwood Sparks. A simple joy!" (Time Out)
- "Exquisite" (The Times)
- "They nail their deceptively drawling song craft to the mast of tight pop songs and emerge sounding as cool and as crafted as the Walkmen on good dope!" (Independent)
