What we say

Rating: ecstatic This record left our BRIAN D feeling ecstatic.

Not content with flooring me with their last single, David Cronenberg's Wife continue to conjure up the affectionate memories we all have for the John Peel show by being witty, twangy, additively catchy & resolutely old school in their vision of 21st century indie. Their debut album is here, 'Bluebeard's Rooms' and its blend of ramshackle, chiming guitars, post-rockabilly drums and sneery, slurred vocals is a delight. It's the absolute perfect distillation of The Fall, Clinic, I, Ludicrous, Quickspace & Half Man Half Biscuit. Caustic lyrics, an incessantly shit keyboard that makes my spine tingle & some of the best cynical vignettes i've heard in a long time. I'm absolutely itching to see these guys live, this debut album is one of the most heartening things i've heard in a long time - so many great influences & great songs (ranging between rattling Fall-esque stompers, sideways kraut/surf-rockers making space for whiskey stained ballads) from an individual, timeless sounding band! Includes both the smashing singles and a load of real quality album tracks that all stand up to be counted. Not many albums this strong being made in this decade so if yo trust me, you may well be rewarded!

What the label says:

Debut album from ascending underground music scenesters DCW with their distinctive sharply observed dark urban tales soundtracked to post-punk surf-psych guitars. Follows third single Runaway Pram (released on 14 July – download only). Second single “my best friend’s going out with a girl i like” was Band Aid single of the week on BBC 6music’s Shaun Kevenay’s breakfast show while Music Week described it as “sarcastic, sardonic and articulate” and that “I can guarantee once you’ve heard this it will stick in your head all day”.  BBC London’s Gary Crowley describes the sound as “a cross between Clinic and Suicide”.  English version of (download only) Runaway Pram has already enjoyed four plays from BBC 6 Music and XFM’s Jon Hillcock.  Mark Riley hosts a live session with the band on August 18th. Album’s marketing campaign will be supported by radio PR from Rocket PR and additionally for this release printed press PR from Coalition Group and online from Charm Factory.

About the humble CD:

The CD is essentially a small portable face mirror which has an extra feature of being able to play music (through a thing known as a CD player). These CD's are a modern invention hence them being all shiny and digital. They can hold about 80 minutes of music and apparently are indestructible as you can smear jam on them and they still play (not as nourishing as toast mind you but when you're hungry.....). They sound crystal clear and are tiny convenient things. They lack the charm and warmth of their old analogue counterparts but their portability, convenience and ease of being duplicated make them a perfect thing of a thing for most folks. Jewel cases are the worst thing ever though and they really need to stop.

'What do you want me to say? I f**ked your Daddy in the shower and had a snack.'
