M83 release a new single, Kim & Jessie, from the album Saturdays=Youth.

Kim & Jessie, heralded as M83’s first “proper pop song” comes backed with remixes of the title track from Data and Montag and is released on 21st July 2008 on download and 12”.

For most of us, our teenage years were an awkward time full of embarrassing moments we'd rather forget. For M83's chief star-gazer Anthony Gonzalez, however, his adolescence turned out to be the most important period of his life, one he looks back upon with great affection and one he's made the defining theme of his new album, Saturdays=Youth - M83’s fifth studio album, out now on Mute.

Says Anthony Gonzalez (aka M83) of new single, Kim & Jessie: "A lot of people always tell me that M83 is always about melancholy music, so I wanted to write something happy with hooks”

Recorded with Ken Thomas (Sigur Ros, Sugar Cubes, Cocteau Twins, Suede) and Ewan Pearson (Tracey Thorn, The Rapture, Ladytron), "Saturdays=Youth" delivers the rich sonic textures for which M83 is well known – this time with a more focused approach to song structure and form.

About the humble 12":

The 12" is the big brother of records as it's an fatter version of the 7", with a vast scope for an array of remixes and B sides. They are slightly less portable their smaller inched brethren but they're by no means inferior. Often the grooves are spaced wider apart and thus sound much much better. You can fit ample tracks on and if worse comes to worse they make fine plates (should your crockery go awol). Yes, there's a hole but holes are easy to sort out. Once again they're available on many different colours and guises. The best thing about a 12" is the potential vastness of the artwork. Also playable on many speeds!!
