Dusk & Blackdown - Focus/ Akkaboo

Roight you lot! Last one from me is a newie from Dusk & Blackdown, the understated naughty puppies of dubstep. Basically doing what Shackleton is but 3 years ago, these boyz are ahead of the game. The latest on Keysound is a 2 header, 'Focus' & 'Akkaboo'. Focus is one of those dubby, morphing technoid steppers with some ace symphonic Derek May-esque synths on that'd make it a perfect mate with the Peverelist 'Infinity..' 12" from a few weeks ago that I still can't keep my grubby fingers off whenever I want a vinyl hit (like, duh! every minute duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude) The flip is a downtempo broken breaks number with some manipulated African chants & an early Autechre bassline that utterly grabs you after a couple of minutes. It sounds to these ears like a boundary pusher all in all. In fact all their stuff demands repeated listens. I implore you to check these guys out if you like the Skull Disco or Hyperdub stuff, or just interesting, rhythmic electronica!

Heralding the imminent arrival of the amazing "Margins Music" full length comes this glorious vinyl pressing of its climactic and almost defining
moment. The sheer optimism of this track is suggested right from the moment Richard Burton declares
"Winston, the resistance is very real" - the mood is undeniably main room dancefloor techno, the bassline is continous, giant and could only have been
made in england and when the vocal drops usher in the huge strings led coda.... well from there on in its quite simply game over dude. Not much else
remains to be said about this, short of buy this record!
