Kit / Mirror/Dash - Split

Split by Kit / Mirror/Dash

The Wire's the best TV program since Twin Peaks and if you haven't seen it yet then you proper should. If you don't believe me then believe the first lady of that useful (when tagging MP3s) 'experimental rock' genre, Mel and Kim. Sorry, Kim and Thurston. 'Cos they've done a tune on this Split 7" called 'Blues for Proposition Joe' which is named after a sympathetic podger from the show, cool eh? It's the main draw here really, taking up the whole of the second side while the first crams three bite-sized noodly little chunks in, it's recognisably Sonic Youth-y with a slowly building then receding arpeggio and distant Kimmy vocals not hampered in the least by the lack of bangy drums, it's slight but lovely. The much more chaotic and experimental first side is apparently those ace Deerhoof people giving up some boisterous, freeform clatter and bonk, with one track forming the closest thing the EP gets to a song, sounding a fair bit like the Sesame Street theme tune. Obviously, that's no bad thing at all. I mean that tune's got nothing on the one at the start of Ulysses 31 but it's pretty damned good. Not sure what's going on with the band names here.. Kit, Mirror, Dash.. Sort it out amongst your bloody selves.
