I've a CD on Sopa (curators of the delicious comp a couple of months ago!) by Agata & Me which combines some melancholic electronics, chiming guitars, rhythmic percussion and wistful vocals to produce some blissful cerebral pop and atmospheric folk. What these two Southern European dudes provide on the 8 trk 'Overnite' EP is nothing particularly new but they do have an elementary grasp of what makes a good tune tick. The use of electronics & glitch really works in harmony with the folksier elements of their music and the use of some warm organ here & there along with some basic emotive chords really touches me! And each song sounds remarkably different to the other so they certainly have an eclectic imagination! Maybe for fans of Notwist & Tunng.
With origins in the Balkans and Sicily two southern europeans meet on a nordic winter night: melancholy strikes...
»Overnite EP«, released by Sound Of Perpetual Astonishment, as an eight-track EP by Agata & Me. Behind the band name you find a duo made up of Agata Foti of Sicily and Emir Pasic of Bosnia (and formerly of the »balkanpunk« band KURvE).
They met up in Aarhus, Denmark, and started doing songs together. During winter the 2007-2008 they
were immensely productive and put together a whole bunch of songs and eight of them have made it onto
this cd.
»Overnite EP« features tracks where traditional songwriting, acoustic instruments and vocal harmonies by both singers intertwine with small doses of electronics and evocative droning loops. The lyrics dive into the deep emotional territory where you find the ups and downs of love and the feeling of alienation. A moving listening experience indeed.
Limited to a 100 copies.
