Henning Schmiedt - Klavierraum

Klavierraum by Henning Schmiedt

After all of that I need something well soothing. Fortunately here's Henning Schmiedt at hand with his tinkly piano and his magic fingers being all tinkly everywhere. Klavierraum is new on Flau Records and it's 15 tracks of pure ivory tinkles with the occasional new age whoosh and shuffle in the background. I have to say I quite like this. Its very simple, beautiful music which will appeal to folks who like Hauschka, Brian Eno, Harold Budd etc. Definitely the latter..... Created for his pregnant wife so she could chill out and be all pregnant everywhere it makes me want to get up the duff though I'm not entirely sure how to go about this. I think I'll have to see my GP in the morning.

Henning Schmiedt’s solo album is a rendez-vous with piano solos. It is a very personal CD by this artist who has been one of the greats on the international world music stage for years now as a composer, arranger and, of course, a pianist.

He himself describes the origins of his current solo CD as follows: “I see the music in Klavierraumas being white. It was a hot August; my heavily pregnant wife needed a room in which she could feel good. Basically she just needed a pleasant room. What I could do for her was to fill the room with music.

With music with lots of beautiful sounds no philosophy, no obligation, just wonderful sounds. They floated and swam with the music, carried by its beautiful harmonies. Friends visited us; they too seemed to float away on the music. They wanted to have the same music at home. Sometimes the sound can be a soft breeze or water or perhaps just “white” but really it is just piano music. My solo piano music for at home. For us all.”
