Another seven incher is rotating... This one is from Wet Paint. 'Hug It Out' is like a good old school indie rock tune from the early ninetees. Reminding us of Superchunk and Dinosaur Jr. It's been mastered by that Benge bloke and has a remix by Matt Tong (Bloc Party) on the flip who dances it up a bit. Ltd and numbered.Wet Paint make music governed by a simple premise - whatever you do, make sure that it’s LOUD! Their surging guitars, irreverent lyrics and deceptively simple melodies are all driven by the same slacker-passion that emanates from the likes of Pavement, Dinosaur Jr and Pixies.
So, making good use out of the wait before the long-awaited Absentee second album, (of which several band members are also participants) and taking some time out from daily chores, ever-growing beards and babies, Babak, Melinda, Laurie and James have made "Hug It Out"; a little gem of a record, and a loud and heavy lament for unrequited love...
Melodrama, anger, thrill and unbridled emotion are all in store, with this tale of one-way romance that will sound familiar to most of us (excluding, of course, the under-16s and devout Christians...). What you're sure to get is lots of delicious feedback and an energy in song-writing that will be familiar to those who've already listened to Save The Whale (released earlier this year on Trial & Error)...
On the B-side comes an amazing remix by friends and colleagues Bloc Party, for all bedroom ballerinas who wish to dance to "Hug it Out" in their underwear...
Also on the digital version of the single, "Don't Shave" deals with philosophical concepts and a swinging arse, on a background of beautiful and intricate guitar lines and melodies...
If this has wet your appetite, look out for the album which the prolific little East-London troupe recorded in a four day studio session...Expect a release just after summer...
Wet Paint: conquering the hearts of those of us who love to turn up our stereos and dance... possibly on our own.
