This is the 2nd release on Soul Spectrum, Jazzman’s New Label dedicated to releasing the rarest soul and disco tunes.
Freak is a mid ‘70s outfit originally on Miami label Blue Candle, the original tracks were 7” only so disco collectors probably won’t have heard this one before.
Life Goes On’ is a sublime disco soul track. As soon as the needle drops you hear the horn riff, instantly friendly and instantly catchy, this is mid-‘70s modern soul at it’s very best, and should be in every soul and funk DJ box. Selected for re-issue by top funk and soul DJ Ian Wright, it really comes into its own towards the end with it’s ‘gospel style’ call and response.
The flip is a James Ingram penned proto-boogie number called ‘That’s What Time It Is’ which was very popular with the ladies at Fryer’s legendary Soul Spectrum night in Edinburgh.
Jazzman are limiting this release, as always
