What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Brett feeling happy.

More droning on Dead Pilot now with Lahto and Shadows of What We Were. If The Doom Riot is the night before then this is the morning after, it's not a million miles away (there's only so much you can do with a drone, after all) but it's far more sedate. Cinematic is definitely a good word to describe it, some bits remind me of Vangelis' stuff on the Blade Runner soundtrack, kicking out the melodies but keeping the feel. One track in particular is extra luuurvly, like those dead moving and uplifting bits in films but drawn out over the length of a song. It's packaged quite nicely in an individually-numbered digipak with two inserts designed to look like Polaroids which is quite a nice touch.

What the label says:

Re-release of the fantastic ambient/drone classic "Shadows of What We Were" by Lähtö, featuring 3 amazing bonus tracks. I don't know if the word epic should be used to describe ambient music, but there's not many other words that can describe this album. It's like the sound track to an underwater battle, but it's never too dark or too heavy or too noisey. As each track unfolds, the battle takes on a new chapter, the winning side advances further in an amazing and elequent manner. An absolutely beautiful and uplifting experience, a must have for fans of the drone scene and even if you already have the album from it's initial digital release, the bonus tracks exclusive to the CDr re-release add further depth to the album that must be heard. A cinematic masterpiece.
