Pete Swanson and Gabriel Mindel Soloman have spent the last six years traveling the world, creating countless minutes of engaging sounds, ranging from a subtle de-stress to the physical retch. The 57 minutes of Deterioration is the latest of the vast soundscape known as Yellow Swans. These five tracks takes you in its grasp, on a journey of desolate beauty. This prolific duo is most recently known for their releases on Load and Narnack Records, but the band also has a large collection of CD-Rs, cassettes, 7” records and 12”EPs released on their own label, Collective Jyrk. The number of actual releases by Yellow Swans seems to be in the 50-70 range, most of which having been long out-of-print on a number of labels and collaborations. One of those releases is a split 7” with Minneapolis artist Devillock, out on Modern Radio. Deterioration itself was originally released as a limited cassette that was made available for a handful of European dates. After creating a body of work that many artists could spend a lifetime amassing, Yellow Swans have decided to call it a day. It may be the end of the Yellow Swans, but this likely does not mark the end of Pete nor Gabe’s music contributions. Both have been part of numerous collaborative projects over the years and there is nothing to suggest such consorts will end. The band will spend the following months playing a few final shows including June 6 in Minneapolis as part of the Modern Radio 9 Year Anniversary celebration. “Yellow Swans' noise is less crowd-oriented in the neck-injuring sense, but more catchy: They get up into not just your gut, but your friend's, too.” (Pitchfork) “experimental noise with sporadic moments of melodic intent” (Punkplanet)
