Speck Mountain - Blood Is Clean

Blood Is Clean by Speck Mountain

Speck Mountain have a ludicrously expensive 7" on Peacefrog who know seem to think it's a good idea to sell 7" singles for 6-7 quid. The inherent greed of the music industry will be its downfall. If you're feeling cash rich (as if...) then 'Blood Is Clean' is actually a decent single to check out. Nice Suicide/ Spacemen 3 style groove going on with twinkly sounding electronics augmented by some sort of organ which someone would have to play with their hands at a guess. It's a very laid back instrumental and I like the beat as it sort of jumps over itself sometimes. Shit I think that's the B side. You'd think they'd clearly label the things at that price. Well the A side is a bit of Mazzy Star ish thing. Spent too much time on the B side...

‘Blood Is Clean’ is the second single taken from Chicago band Speck Mountain’s haunting debut album ‘Summer Above’, an album that has drawn comparisons to The Velvet Underground and Mazzy Star. Limited to 500 7”s on beautiful white coloured vinyl, ‘Blood Is Clean’ is another ethereal, magical and enthralling; dreamy, psychedelic pop rock song built on singer Marie-Claire Balabanian’s soft, sedated, honey-dripped vocals. On the flip, ‘Blackside’ is an unreleased exclusive instrumental track on available on this release.
