What the label says about Everything, Anything, Nothing, by The Loved:
The players: Benjamin Clark, Michael Weis, Joey
Yates. Formed in 1996 and disbanded less than two years later, The Loved were
an accidentally mysterious pop trio from the unlikely locale of Louisville, KY.
In truth, they were just three ordinary guys making Beatles-inspired pop with a
few nods to some 70s and 80s guitar gods. They weren’t trying to be coy, they
just didn’t care about much else besides the music, so their “image” and
“story” remained a question mark. With no likeminded groups with whom to tour
or commiserate (save for Jim James’ pre-My Morning Jacket band Month of
Sundays, and The Pennies, neither of which played outside of Kentucky), The
Loved played scant few live shows, usually supporting their friends in The
Sonora Pine, Wino or Nero in whatever coffee shop or warehouse would host them.
Their shows became notorious in Louisville;
loud, sweaty affairs where the crowd knew all the words to songs that weren’t
yet recorded, much less released (a remarkable feat in the age before
downloading or record leaks). By the time we released their self-titled
five-song EP in 1998, they were already heading their separate ways. Selling
out of its original pressing of 1,000 copies, it was believed to be the
singular, all-too-brief document of a good band that could have been so much
more. What few knew at the time was the EP only included half of the band’s
recorded output. There were five more songs that were being saved for a
full-length album that never happened. When the group split up, those songs sat
on a shelf in singer / songwriter
Michael Weis’ house until we inquired about them one Christmas holiday a few
years ago. The Loved EP had maintained its charm and relevance to those few who
were lucky enough to see or hear them, so when the time came to repress the EP
we decided instead to reissue it as a full-length album, featuring all of those
lost songs. Available here for the first time, Everything, Anything, Nothing
collects the entire recorded history of The Loved, culled from the only two
recording sessions during their brief existence. Recorded on 8-track analog
tape by Kevin Coultas (Rodan), and remastered by Alan Douches at West West Side
Music (Yes, Sufjan Stevens), this is the way The Loved were always meant to be
heard, and truly the way they should be remembered: three ordinary guys that
just happened to make ten great songs. Track Listing: 1. Everything, Anything,
Nothing 2. House Painter 3. Nadine 4. Lydia/Spinner 5. You Must Have Been Out Of Your Mind 6. It’s Sooo Sad 7. Child’s Love 8. Winter Comes And Goes 9. Untitled
10. Her Tiny Little Heart
