What we say

Rating: ecstatic This record left our Ant feeling ecstatic.

The latest deluxe 7" on The Great Pop Supplement comes courtesy of Jack Rose And The Black Twigs. The moment the needle hits the 45 with 'Revolt' your ears are treated to a real upbeat beer spilling twanger of a tune. You may be familiar with this song from his recent 'Dr Ragtime' album. It's a jolly old number with the extra bonus of The Black Twigs adding harmonica and lapsteel into the mix. This total authentic bluegrass gear has been lovingly recorded with a real bright sound coming from all the strings.'Soft Steel Piston' is a similarly upbeat cut with a pure feelgood hoedown party vibe. I can just imagine folks going crazy and dancing around chucking ale and bourbon everywhere. Apparently this is Jacks personal favourite 45 so far. A ltd pressing of 500 in lovely booklet sleeve with TGPS sticker. Strictly one per person.

What the label says:

Total killer new Jack rose 45 on The Great Pop Supplement featuring 2 tracks originally recorded by Jack (solo) for the “Dr. Ragtime” full length.
Given radical reworkings with the help of the Black Twig Pickers, uniquely for this release. Full on lap steel, banjo, harmonica hoedown- Jack himself rates this his best 45 so far!
Totally essential, double A side 45 in cool booklet style sleeves. Pressing of 500.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
