These are difficult times for the music industry. CD sales have plummeted as people swap files, illegally download and burn copies for friends. The traditional music business model is failing and record labels are scrabbling to find a way forward. Many are in panic, losing money hand over fist, merging with other companies in the wider “entertainment industry” in the hope of survival, or simply closing their doors altogether. Yet for others, this isn’t a crisis at all. It is a cause for celebration, a new beginning, a golden opportunity.
Make Mine Music is a truly radical independent label, established in 2002, run and owned by the artists themselves.
