So glad Cassetteboy are still churning out their particular brand of hilarious puerility. I thought I'd review newie 'Carry on Breathing' from home to avoid doing the washing up and hey, it's a fine wake up brew. Splicing finely edited snippets of modern culture into breakneck Viz style hilarity is nothing new but these fellers are top of the game here. Blink-&-you'll-miss-'em double entendres mingle with segments of muzak & a handful of hugely appealing electronica pieces in a rapid fire 75 minutes that spits venom & mirth in equal measure. They're still dry rutting the corpse of Eastenders but I'm constantly flabbergasted at the razor sharp editing used to achieve the most side splitting, eyebrow-raising results from banal & innocuous radio & television media. If it's true comedy your after & past endeavours have amused you greatly then this latest installment of post Morris satire will have you all chuckling heartedly. Best listened to after a herbal refreshment in open minded company. No one comes out of this without at least a dribble of egg on their face. Genius at work from Barry's Bootlegs. CD only

What their label says...

Tis indeed a great pleasure to welcome back infamous cut-up terrorists Cassette Boy to their original home on Barry’s Bootlegs.
RECOMMENDED ALBUM OF THE MONTH IN IDJ WITH 5/5 REVIEW: "YUP, THE MYSTERIOUS SATIRISTS ARE BACK AND, IM PLEASED TO REPORT, BETTER THAN EVER."
Cassette Boy ‘accidentally’ made a classic debut album with ‘The Parker Tapes’ (BAZ004) in 2002 ("Very, very funny. The bastard offspring of Chris Morris, Cartman and Cutmaster Swift" - 8/10 in NME) then they sold out and went ‘pop’
with ‘Dead Horse (BAZ10) in 2005 as well as the Antidote/Sanctuary album ‘Mick’s Tape’... and now they are back with the concept album ‘CARRY ON BREATHING’.
Covering all the big themes: money, love, death and, er, Croydon Council, CARRY ON BREATHING tells the story of life itself, from birth to death, through the medium of bits of Eastenders, nicked northern soul loops and knob gags.
Cassetteboy are childhood friends Michael Bollen and Steve Warlin.
- Michael: This album is our most ambitious work to date.  We’ve collected so much more material than we ever have done before, weeks and weeks of TV and radio.
- Steve: Bit Torrent and youtube have opened up whole new worlds of raw material for us. But of course we’d never infringe any copyright.
- Michael: No, never. This is definitely our best album though. It’s hard to know how we’ll top it. In fact we’ll probably just split up after this one.
- Steve: We say that after every album.
- Michael: Yeah. CARRY ON BREATHING is good though. I don’t think anyone will have heard anything quite like it before.
- Steve: Unless they’ve heard our other albums.
- Michael: If there’s any justice in the world, we’ll win the Mercury Music Prize.
- Steve: We’re not going to win the Mercury Music Prize.
- Michael: I know.
CARRY ON BREATHING is released on the same day as Michael’s debut novel EARTH INC. (Picnic Publishing).  Stephen Merchant (The Office) has described EARTH INC. as ‘Reminiscent of Douglas Adams, the funniest work of
fiction since The Bible." You can read extracts here: www.picnic-publishing.co.uk/earthinc
Cassetteboy will be appearing at the Glastonbury festival, The Glade festival and will be touring the UK around the time of the album.
