We've played this here Gable 'Seven Guitars With A Cloud Of Milk' album a few times now and it's mad as a frog of boxes. It switches from straight up guitar indie into big horns and old piano and jazz with ludicrous lyrics. It has a certain charm that I cant quite put my finger on. It's kind of tongue in cheek but serious at the same time. There's even electronics twanging about and lots of nice percussion. You get old fashioned sing along gear and then stuttering gibbering cut up vocal stuff. Brian is really feeling this one. This really draws extremely eclectic influences from all over the place and manages to chuck them all together and make them actually work. Out on LoAF.

What their label says...

French pop heritage is littered with smooth and creamy icons:Gainsbourg, Karen Anne, Adamo and Francois Hardy. Gablé,however, are a completely different kettle de poisson. Wearingtheir infl uences on their sleeves – Moldy Peaches, Meat Puppetsand early Sonic Youth, they stick a lovely big lump of absolutelybonkers, stinky musical cheese in the face of suave ancestry.7 Guitars with a Cloud of Milk, is Gablé’s second album, 18tracks with song subjects as diverse as group suicide, the state ofurban music, self-realization, cats and drunk foxes, all clockingin just under forty minutes, in the best DIY tradition of bands suchas The Vaselines, Violent Femmes and Beat Happening. As far as their live shows go, you can’t get any more sensational.Samplers, recorders and a Hoover provide an invigorating backingto the melodic singing, explosive spluttering and just plaindaft blurts of these intriguing Frenchmen (and woman). They’recharming, interesting and are seriously fun with a surprisinglycaptivating stage presence for an unassuming 3-piece. Theband recently supported chk chk chk (!!!) and will be touringFrance and the UK later this year.Gablé will be the fi rst in the new series of conceptual packagingfor the LOAF label, to follow last year’s award-winning (D packaging concept. For each release, their designers,Non-Format have devised a template for an 8 page CD booklet. This template will be sent to a specially commissioned illustratorwho will customise the booklet. The original design will thenbe scanned and will be used as-is on the fi nished product, thus maintaining LOAF’s “Luxury DiYaesthetic with a strong andconstant visual identity but with a completely different outcomeevery time.
