I reckon Times New Viking are pretty alright. Phil tells me this stuff is being called shitgaze after Psychedelic Horseshit coined the phrase. In an age where so many bands are totally over produced it's cool to hear a really trashed lo-fi sound with some good songs underneath the tinnitus levels of treble. This is basically indie rock with boy girl vocals that has a real pop sensibility but their sound is so uncommercial. Proper guitar fuzz that's pretty rockin' and headache inducing in a good way.. If you liked their album on Siltbreeze then you're gonna dig 'Rip It Off' which is out on Matador.

What their label says...

Times New Viking are the trio of drummer / vocalist Adam Elliot,
keyboardist / vocalist Beth Murphy and guitar virtuoso Jared Phillips.
These kids make super lo-fi thrashy arty tunes with melodies buried under screeds of noise. There’s a touch of early Pavement, but with mid-Western energy.
the trio have been a cause celèbre of record collectors and actual attractive people for the past two years. The band have toured with Super Furry Animals, Yo La Tengo, Mission Of Burma and The Ponys and have been causing a stir at this years SXSW festival. A limited edition handmade 7" sold out in days. MP3s are already garnering intense blog love.
Now, hot on the heels of two rabidly devoured releases for the Siltbreeze label, the Matador debut from Columbus, OH’s Times New Viking is the classic we were hoping for and then some. ‘Rip It Off’ has already garnered intense love from across the pond, translating into an ATP appearance in the diary for May this year, followed by a European tour concluding at Spain’s legendary Primavera festival.
