...according to our Phil on 26 February 2009.
A Silent Place 2008 ARC formed spontaneously in 2000 at a performance at The Ambient Ping, Toronto's long-running live ambient/experimental music series. ARC's sound is centred on the melodic loops, textures & samples provided by heavily-effected guitar & other melodic instruments. This is overlaid with tribal-esque rhythms made by various percussive instruments; drum kit, djembe, tabla, wood blocks, etc. With this combination this trio create a roiling tapestry of psychedelic drone music, rhythmic & ambient sound; a sound simultaneously prim(ev)al & avant-garde. This second Arc's full length on A Silent Place label featuring Aidan Baker, well know as NADJA member and for his soloist works (guitars, woodwinds, percussion, voices), Richard Baker (drum set, emboura, percussion), and Christopher Kukiel (electronic percussion, djembe, tabla, dumbec, percussionS).Glassine I was recorded live at the Ambient Ping in Toronto on 03/07/2006; and can be easily described as an organic space ambient, with very strong references to Pink Floyd (Ummagumma), Popol Vuh, Ashra Temple, Jackie-O Motherfucker, O Yuki Conjugate, AMP and Flying Saucer Attack or "Fourth World" ambient music! Four tracks of pure vibrant multi-layered psychedelic drone music! Now, close your eyes, listening to "Glassine 1" and start for your trip even without the intake of any substances. waiting for "Glassine II (coming soon on A Silent Place).
