Seriously, this Mechanical Bird CD I've heard bleeding 4 times now. It's a collection of dreamy, sparkling music-box folk which errs on the melancholy in a very special way. '11 songs for perchers' just shambles along like a big, sad saggy bear, saying hello to all the eager woodland creatures in it's path whilst thinking of all the things that have made him unhappy, like splitting up from Mrs Bear, having Bear Acres re-possessed by the Bear bank, and delighting in the sweet, chirruping sounds the little flappy things circling his furry brow make. It reminds me in various places of Dukes of Handgliding, Turin Brakes (with great vocals, natch) Parsley Sound, Mercury Rev, Tunng & Shady Bard. The electronics & field recordings are sumptious, the occasional lo-fi percussion rustic & onobtrusive, the piano minimal & delicious and the lazy pace of the entire album just helps you wind down in no time, placing a warm grin on your chops. This is the loveliest recording i've heard from Denmark (for it's recordings stem from Copenhagen & Aarhus) in some time. With repeated plays, the songs become old friends. All are perfectly formed and quite charming. Beautiful packaging on D'oorhinge L'orange.

What their label says...

Over the course of three years, Jakob Brixen recorded this fantastic song-based album on his own (with guests adding vocals, piano and drums) - a somewhat radical departure from what his group Manuskript did on their classic "Digt #1" cd-r (BSBTA, 2005).

11 Songs is a unique, warm, enchanting home recorded folk / singer-songwriter / Americana-inspired album, lyrically and thematically of a spiritual nature. The experimental elements in the songs - singing saw, music box, electronics, etc. - are quirky, yet complementing.

Factory pressed CD in a beautifully handmade / printed digifile-esque cover with booklet, limited to approx. 275 copies.
