I swear there is a recod out on Domino every week. This weeks one is Stephen Malkmus' fourth album 'Real Emotional Trash' (I think). For anyone that's been living on planet zod for the last 15 years then Stephen Malkamus was in Pavement. His band the Jicks apparently feature an all female rhythm section that includes Sleater Kinney drummer Janet Weiss. Both Phil and I are not entirely sure what to make of this. There are elements that I like and then some that make me cringe slightly i.e the meandering electric guitar.Hmmmmmm ................

What their label says...
‘Real Emotional Trash’ is Stephen Malkmus’ fourth solo record, and his second with The Jicks. The Jicks line up now includes Sleater Kinney and Quasi drummer Janet Weiss. ‘Real Emotional Trash’s sound is more solid thanks to the new strong girl rhythm section. Stephen Malkmus also treats us with epic jams, monster riffs and lyrics with an attention to social details.·There has been a fantastic response from the press to the new album, with features in The Times (plus podcast), NME, The Guardian Guide, Another Magazine and lead reviews in Uncut and Mojo. Radio is also very promising with a Radio 1 Zane Lowe play and already some 6Music spot plays. There is a renewed interest in Malkmus’ former band Pavement which should encourage interest in his latest solo work. Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks will be playing a set of UK tour dates in May, to accompany the release of ‘Gardenia’, the forthcoming new single from the album.Features : NME, The Times, The Guardian Guide, Plan B, Dazed & Confused, Base.Ad, The Skinny, Another Magazine, This Is Fake DIY
