Got an album here by The Low Lows on Monotreme. 'Shining Violence' is a dreamy beast of an alt country americana mutant hybrid. The blend of Pedal Steel, Rhodes, vibraphone, brass,, clarinet and drums. It evokes My Morning Jacket, Skygreen Leopards, Sparklehorse, Band of Horses, Jason Molina, The Velvets Underground & Galaxie 500. I just copied and pasted that list of bands from the press release. What a lazy twat I am. Twat is a cool swear word. Brian and I both agree its one of the top swearings you can do, even though it's generally considered to be weaker than some of the "stronger" four letter words. Anyway I likes this I do.

What their label says...

he Low Lows (ex-Parker & Lily) follow up their majestic 2006 debut album, Fire On The Bright Sky, with Shining Violence, an album of leaner, more hook-laden songs, which combines slow, dreamlike balladry with melodically distorted guitar, smashing, trashy drums, pedal steel, three-part vocal harmony and gospel-tinged, explosive climaxes. Highlights include a rousingly twangy cover of The Yeah Yeah Yeah’s ‘Modern Romance’ and ‘Five Ways I Didn’t Die', which was a hugely popular radio session  track last year ("absolutely beautiful... one of my favorite sessions of the year.  Marvelous.” – Mark Coles, ‘The Beat’, BBC Radio). RIYL: My Morning Jacket, Skygreen Leopards, Sparklehorse, Band of Horses, Jason Molina, The Velvets Underground & Galaxie 500. The Low Lows will also be releasing ‘Shining Violence’ in North America on Misra Records (Centro-Matic, Phosphorescence, Shearwater, Destroyer, Great Lake Swimmers, South San Gabriel, St Thomas, Mendoza Line etc.) and will be touring Europe and North America extensively in 2008.
