Our Brother The Native release their 2nd album on Fat Cat this week on CD only. 'Make Amends For We Are Merely Vessels' is a complete opus from start to end. A lot of the similarities with the Animal Collective aren't as apparent on this album as they were on the last one. I seem to remember that's all I could think of. There's still a whiff of the Collective on this new album though..... but there's so much more 'n all. Now there's a massive Godspeed influence chucked in the mix... it straddles genre like no other record I've heard in some time. It goes from post rock to some post metal, dabbles in freak folk and then goes back to post rock.... there's some acoustic-ness, neo classical gear, electronics.... Hey it sounds like a complete mess but it really works. I've no idea how they've cobbled this record together but it's seriously one of the most inventive records I've heard in a long time. The first few times I heard it in the office impressed me but with headphones on being immersed in the experience I'm totally absorbed. A great great record!

What their label says...
Second full length album from cutting-edge teenage Michigan based three piece recalling early Animal Collective and Godspeed You Black Emperor. This is the first album where Our Brother The Native have conceived the recordings as a collective and recorded live, the first album was written via the internet, with the band sending each other MP3’s. Informed by post-rock / noise as much as any perceived freak-folk leanings, it is a logical progression from the debut, a bold, expansive and ambitious record that ebbs and flows with huge power and considerable skill. The band are due to play their debut UK shows in 2008, prior to this, school has been a factor in the bands live commitments. A naturally experimental young outfit, ‘Make Amends…’ highlights the fast progression of a young band coming into their own, having fun diversifying, creating new forms and utilising all manner of equipment..
