Norman Records longtime favorite Adrian Crowley's latest opus 'Long Distance Swimmer' has the man heading in a somewhat different direction. Recorded in Dublin, the essence of the album is pure Crowley, straight from the soul but the sound has had a bit of an overhaul. The addition of a drummer really surprised me and makes for a much fuller polished sound as opposed to the fragile stripped down intimate sound we're used to. For me this makes it a lot less heart-wrenching but still he does plenty of the bare bones stuff too.The songwriting and lyrics are as sharp as ever and this will fit neatly into any fans collection with a big Norman Records seal of approval. 3 panel fold out digi-pak CD on Tin Angel Records.

What their label says...

From the label that brought you Devon Sproule, this is Irish singer-songwriter Adrian Crowley's fourth album, after the release of his Steve Albini-produced album 'When You Are Here You are Family' and 'A Northern Country' on Ba Da Bing! Records. After touring with James Yorkston a few times in UK & Ireland, opening for Jose Gonzalez, Howe Gelb, Badly Drawn Boy in Dublin, and a month long UK tour with Adem, Adrian had a first London headliner at The Luminaire in November. In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Ryan Adams mentioned his name when talking about some of his favourite things that people might not have heard. Signed with Domino for publishing, last year 'The Girl From The Estuary' appeared on Rough Trade Shops 'Singer Songwriter 01'. Slow exquisitely rendered craft support these gentle soft-spoken insular folk songs, featuring guitars, piano, harmonium, sax, melodica, and his richly distinctive vocals, accompanied by cello, accordion, bass, and more - Nick Drake with a woozy love hangover, Red House Painters in general, or Yo La Tengo shanghai-ed by a Celtic ghost.
