Akira Kosemura & Haruka Nakamura: 'Afterglow' (Schole) Ten track lushness on this Japanese imprint specializing in contemporary electronica/pop and modern classical. On 'Afterglow' Kosemura and Hakamura hang their light, playful melodies and glowing soundscapes on serial piano refrains, looped vocals and cool atmospherics. Some of the titles evoke images through one word descriptions with minimum fuss and attention to detail. So, in 'Garden', 'Drizzle', 'Haze', 'Nostalgia', 'Calm' and 'Delight' we get the sort of emotional effect and affect associated with this subtle genre of un-challenging ambient styled story telling. Track four 'Delight' applies found sound to amazing effect, reminding me of Steve Morris in the recent Joy Division Biopic 'Control', using the sound of an aerosol spray as additional percussion. This is a great CD with both artists sharing production duties on two tracks, dividing the rest individually. The flow remains intact though.
