Foals are well widdly. They make a widdly racket which is pleasing to the ear. It all strikes me as being rather complicated sometimes but they manage to make pop songs out of this complex widdly wilderness they create. Their new single 'Balloons' sounds like a twiddly Bloc Party crossed with some early 80's sounding band I can't actually pinpoint. It's on 7"/CD and 12"... the latter features a Kieran Hebden mix! Spiky!

OVERVIEW: December 3rd sees the release of the first commercial single from one of the hottest bands in the UK today, Oxford-based quartet, Foals. 'Balloons' is the first single to be taken from the much anticipated debut album, and features all new songs across a variety of beautifully illustrated formats – not to mention the first of a series of recordings made in a 'set-to-be-legendary' musical partnership with the highly influential Kieran Hebden, aka Four Tet. These sessions will appear across a series of strictly limited, beautifully etched 12" vinyls for each of the single releases from the album. Foals have been touring the country for much of the year in between recording their album, their recent limited edition single 'Mathletics' sold out in its first week and not only that but their track 'Hummer' featured on the trailers for the hugely popular TV show Skins and is now also one of the most searched for tracks on Myspace. With huge fans such as Jo Whiley, Zane Lowe and Edith Bowman to name a few it's no exaggeration to say that Foals are possibly the best new band in the UK, and definitely ones to watch closely in 2008.
