What their label says...
Bumper, bargain 22-track ‘best of year’ label compilation, featuring new and exclusive tracks by Holy F**k, You & The Atom Bomb and Tiger Force plus many others! The ninth volume of our critically acclaimed compilation series brings together new friends and old in one fine package. Let Our Enemies Beware kick things off in a slow-burning fashion, their three-pronged guitar assault reaching a feverpitch that can justifiably be described as either ‘apocalyptic’ or just plain ‘loud’. Tiger Force bring the beatz, yelps and toy instruments to the party, while Holy Fuck drive everyone into a frenzy with their rhythmic, entirely improvised aural assault. Future Britfolk star House Of Brothers provides a rare quiet moment, with an exclusive track, while Clone Quartet throw in a meaty taster of their forthcoming debut STA album. Pocketbooks are twee, but in a totally loveable way, while Pagan Wanderer Lu serves up more home (recorded) truths in another PSB exclusive. Both Rebus, and The Cleo Whip chip in with some underground pop treats, while Dragonflies Draw Flame summon the ghosts of Moore, Mascis and Conley to create something equally as tuneful, but just that little bit noisier. Don’t be fooled by Gamages Model Train Club, for a dark heart that owes more to Cave and Cash than Thomas resides beneath the oddball name. A man of many faces, the Peaches-approved Alan MX turns in a cut that sounds like that long-lost Timberlake/Yorke duet you once saw on Soulseek. Optimist Club spin things completely the other way with a track that barely pauses for breath, between spleen-cleansing lyrics before hurtling into an auditory brick wall. Lovvers come with a fine pedigree, and don’t disappoint with an art punk mess of a track that practically explodes out of your speakers in stutters and bursts. Seven Sided Story are the other side of the coin, choosing hook-after-hook-after-hook as their weapon of choice. Attack! Switch Attack!’s stated mission is “to keep you on your toes”. Mission successful! We decided it was best to let You & The Atom Bomb describe themselves. They told us that they “concoct a sonic stew from a stock of simmering beat pop boiling over into explosive phworgasmicore”. Isn’t that nice? We close off with a dreamy, expansive piece by Farewell, Appalachia! who are not actually from the mountain range from which they take their name, but the rather less exotic climes of Exeter. Still, with music this great, we’re prepared to forgive them…1. Let Our Enemies Beware - Fools, Philistines, Heretics And Whores 2. Tiger Force - Beat This 3. Duke Raoul – Escape 4. Holy Fuck - K.
