A feat no doubt aided by being hailed ‘Band of the Week’ on Spin.com alongside some serious championing from fellow tastemakers Pitchfork.Across the pond, UK label Playlouderecordings - still smitten from witnessing Voxtrot in full, glorious swing at SXSW in March 2006 - signed them up sharp and Worldwide, releasing their stunning E.P. ‘Mother, Sisters, Daughters & Wives’ in the UK, and a little later the single ‘Biggest Fan’ stateside, with the latter reaching no. 4 in the Billboard Maxi Singles Chart, squeezed rather cosily between Beyonce and Nelly Furtado.·Now they bring you their eponymous debut. An album as multi-layered and complex as the songwriting itself: jaunty and melancholy, introspective and explosive, darkly dramatic and prettily melodic. An album where intelligent multi-instrumentation whirls around and builds into gloriously simplistic and instantly infectious pop-hearted songs, all driven by tender observational and confessional vocals.
