Animal Collective: 'Strawberry Jam' (Domino), seems to take it's cue from the last Panda Bear album, full of vocals to the fore, high melody factor and much more potential for crossover into mainstream radio play. We've been playing this for a few weeks now on promo and by heck it surely does grow and grow to infectious levels. Still, not sure what the lyrics are getting at, but, as the title implies it certainly is a sweet concoction of a strange combination of sounds that go together to create a mighty impressive layering of unlikely textures and juxtapositions of song-cycles, everyday sounds and serial movements with loops going off at all sorts of tangents. A multitracked melange of sweet madness as only they can. Vinyl edition comes first, CD later...

What their label says...

It’s an amazing record, which should finally mark some sort of crossover for them. It bears all of their unique and charming hallmarks but with vocals and melody much more to the foreground.  Over the last few years, Animal Collective has seen it’s fanbase swell due to amazing live shows, with sell out performances at London’s Astoria and more recently The Coronet. The level of interest in all things AC has never been higher, with their aforementioned devotional live performances and  the huge success of solo albums this year from Panda Bear (‘Person Pitch’) and Avey Tare (‘Pullhair Rubeye’).
