Coveted abum of the week prize this week goes to Verbose with his outstanding album called 'Wonder'. This has just arrived from Japan this week from the Moamoo/ Art Union label and it's a corker. This is quite different to his last album on Neo Ouija.... It's almost post rocky without the rock. ie post.... Beautiful textured electronic music with layer upon layer of loveliness. There's hidden treats to be found on repeated listens which reveal themselves later and smack you in the face for not noticing them earlier. I can hear bits of Yellow 6 in there in it's drifty lovelyness and there's also a heavy Mono influence I reckon as well. From start to end this is a fantastic listen. For fans of Maps & Diagrams, Yellow 6, Mono and other such pretty pretty. Muchly recommended!

What their label says...

Verbose is UK based artist Allan Richmond and Wonder is his long awaited new full length album on Tokyo basedlabel Moamoo. Following a debut album on Neo Ouija and a string of EPs on influential independent labels such asCactus Island, Awkward Silence Recordings and Unlabel, Verbose returns in 2007 with a full length album featuringbrand new material recorded during 2006 and 2007.A further departure / progression from the electronica of early releases, Wonder develops the themes introducedon the split ep with Maps and Diagrams on Awkward Silence Recordings. Sometimes beautiful, sometimes dark andchaotic, Wonder is a unique marriage of quiet and loud melancholia, undercurrents of electronica and hypnotic postrock - a soundtrack to loneliness, isolation and rejection.Musically inspired by diverse artists such as Autechre, Cult Of Luna, Mono, Mogwai and 65daysofstatic and adoptingthemes from an ongoing obsession with Japanese cinema and literature (Haruki Murakami in particular), Verbosetakes another step torwards defining his intended sound.
